30 Days of Inspiration! Day 22: Adam Bird

Tonight I will be introducing one of the youngest photographers on this blog so far! Adam has amazing work. I hope you all will enjoy this little interview and check out his facebook and flickr pages!

"The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway"
1. Introduce yourself and the style of photography you think best represents your work.

My name is Adam Bird. I’m 17 years old and a self-taught photographer based in Birmingham, England. I specialise in conceptual, portrait and fashion photography.

2. How did you get into photography?

A few years back, my sister was scouted by a modelling agency and needed to get a portfolio put together. I shot some images in our garden at home and soon began experimenting with different camera techniques and looking at the work of other photographers online. I loved the creative side of it, transforming the images to look completely different.

3. What inspires your photographs?

Pretty much everything inspires me to take a photograph! I’d say that most of my work comes from how I’m feeling or what’s been going on in my life lately.

4.Where are some of your favorite places to shoot?

I love shooting in the woods! I find it so peaceful and it’s a great location for conceptual style work.

5.Do you like to photograph other things, or just your main work?

I like to photograph landscapes! I’m not too ‘good’ at these though, but I find it fun every now and again to challenge myself to do something different.

6. What is your favorite photo you've taken and why?

My favourite photo I’ve ever taken was my Alice in Wonderland image “Curiouser and Curiouser”. I’m really proud of this photograph as it was planned weeks in advance and turned out better than my original concept.

7. What do you want your viewers to take away from your work?

I want my viewers to relate to my work. I want it to catch people’s eye and make them think.

8. What gear do you use? What's your most used lens and why?

I use a Nikon D610 with a 50mm 1.8. I love shooting with this lens as the quality is super good and the low aperture value helps create my signature style!

9. Who would you say is your favorite photographer? Why?

My favourite photographer has to be Rosie Hardy. She inspires me as both a person and photographer.

10. Have you dealt with any negativity as a photographer, if so, how did you overcome it?

I’ve had people criticize my work all the time, it can be technically or personal towards me. I guess the only way to get through it is to keep creating.

11. Do you plan on doing anything with your photography or do you shoot just for fun?

At the moment, I’m building up my portfolio and shooting for fun! In the future, I’d love to make a career out of photography.

12. Do you have a favorite inspirational quote? If so, what is it and why is it your favorite?

My favourite quote is “only photography what you love” by Tim Walker. I believe that photography should be personal and by shooting what you love makes your work unique and special to you.

13. What is one experience from shoots that you will always remember?

I will always remember going on a shoot in the snow and it was so cold that my model passed out! It was so bad that we had to cancel the shoot!!!
"Fearless"

14. What would be the best advice you could give to a new photographer?

I’m pretty new myself but I would say some good advice is to shoot as much as possible. It’ll really help you gain experience and become more confident with different jobs!

15. Any final words you'd like to say?

I’d like to say a big thank you to Samantha for having me on this blog! Please check out my work on the links below and also feel free to send me a message :D

Thank you so much Adam for answering everything! Your work is beautiful! I'm not going to lie, I laughed a little at your most memorable shoot. Hope she ended up being okay, but that is definitely a memorable shoot, even if it didn't happen - haha! Good luck with all of your photographic adventures and you're so young and you already have a beautiful portfolio! Keep it up! :)
